Director of Sales

S2 Genomics, Inc., is a life sciences company in Livermore, CA, focused on providing automated sample preparation systems for single cell genomics and cell biology applications. Founded in 2016, the company has successfully launched its initial Singulator 100 system and is experiencing rapid growth.
Job Description

  • Develop and execute strategic plan to achieve sales targets and expand customer base
  • Establish sales goals and create incentive programs based on corporate goals and forecast
  • Call on prospective accounts, provide technical and product information, coordinate presentations and support proposal generation
  • Conduct well-organized product presentations and demonstrations to customers and at conventions
  • Attend conventions, sales meetings and training programs as requested by management
  • Assists sales representatives with maintaining relationships, negotiating, and closing deals
  • Maintain accurate up to date sales pipeline reports and forecasts
  • Build distribution channels to penetrate and grow market share
  • Drive segmental sales
  • Maintain strategic priority integrity with the Global Sales Plan by keeping the U.S. Sales team in sync with larger corporate objectives
  • Establish strategic business relationships with all accounts and key customers
  • Establish commission and incentive plan for team and work with finance team to monitor and track throughout year
  • Maintain sales personnel by selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Plan and conduct regular Sales meetings
  • Plan for the development and career path of Sales employees
  • Support and direct the application of marketing and promotional activities
  • Track and support Regulatory and Quality functions or needs per GSD Quality System Manual
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management


The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Previous research instrumentation sales experience, genomics or cell biology systems a plus
  • Able to meet and exceed sales goals
  • Knowledge and experience in the life sciences tools industry
  • Previous sales management experience
  • Prior experience in business development
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software experience
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
  • Strong business planning abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, capable of identifying appropriate customers and partners
  • Able to learn new and existing instrumentation, reagents, workflow, and software technologies
  • Report customers’ needs to R&D to help define product development pipeline requirements
  • Able and willing to adhere to corporation personnel policies and practices
  • Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations (cGMP) and International Standards (ISO) pertaining to medical devices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Internet Explorer, Chrome, or FirefoxSkills, Abilities & Knowledge

Basic Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in business or a related field; Master’s degree preferred (Biological Science degree also considered)
  • At least 5 years previous work experience in a similar position at a life sciences company selling instruments and reagents required
  • Ability to travel on short notice
  • Able to coordinate own travel arrangements when traveling to customer or distributor sites
  • Technical knowledge of genomics and cell biology; knowledge of single cell genomics a plus
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
